Joe Kelly is a husband, father, grandfather, educator, martial artist, and coach—but more than anything, he's a storyteller at heart, sharing hard-won wisdom from decades of real-life experience.
With over 40 years in education, Joe has served as a teacher, school counselor, assistant principal, and principal of an alternative high school. His career has been dedicated to supporting students who often fall through the cracks—helping them find direction, resilience, and hope. His work has always centered on connection, compassion, and the belief that every person can grow, change, and thrive.
Outside the classroom, Joe is a 5th Degree Black Belt in Tae-Kwon-Do with over 35 years of martial arts experience. The discipline and focus that martial arts demands have influenced every part of his personal and professional life. He even passed the torch by handing down his martial arts school to his son, who runs it today.
Joe holds two master’s degrees—one in School Counseling and one in Educational Leadership— and has also completed extensive training in mental health counseling. He is also a Certified Master Life Coach, working with parents, educators, and individuals seeking clarity, purpose, and better relationships.
Joe’s writing—whether in books, workshops, or on stage—is grounded in his lived experience and deep empathy. His stories are real, his advice is practical, and his tone is always encouraging.
When he’s not writing or coaching, Joe enjoys gardening, Dutch oven cooking, reading, and most of all, spending time with his wife, five grown children, and twelve wonderful grandchildren.
